About the customer
AAE invests in the development of renewable energies to protect the environment and provide an alternative to conventional fossil and nuclear power. With the implementation of various projects, the company has demonstrated its strong ecological innovative power for more than 135 years. In addition to the construction of one of the first power plants in Austria, these include the construction and operation of Europe’s first high-altitude wind turbine and the erection of Slovenia’s first wind power plant. AAE also developed the first hydrosolar energy system with an eco-electricity control centre and operates the only private storage power plants in Austria.

:SAFE ICE is reliable – Full recommendation
For AAE Südwind Strom GmbH, the second wind power plant in Carinthia (Enercon type E53) was equipped with :SAFE ICE. The aim was to provide a reliable solution for ice detection.
The EOLOGIX-PING system works perfectly – clear recommendation.
When the wind turbine was installed, a further ice detection system was officially required in addition to the power curve based system. A recommendation from another company made it clear that the EOLOGIX-PING system, which measures directly on the rotor blade surface, has clear advantages over a nacelle-based system:
- the :SAFE ICE system offers more reliability,
- the measurement is performed directly on the rotor blade surface,
- accurate measurement – the system is only switched off in the event of safety-relevant icing.
By law, there is an obligation for the wind turbine on the Ploeckenpass to stop the wind turbine in case of safety-relevant ice accumulation. In the course of the new construction of this plant, a turnkey solution and an :SAFE ICE detection system was purchased. The installation and commissioning by EOLOGIX-PING went smoothly – the necessary sensors were already installed on the ground and the mounting of the base station followed as the system was erected.
